Don't approach EC directly, Kashmir departments told

The Jammu and Kashmir government Thursday advised its departments not to approach the Election Commission directly for any clarification on the model code of conduct.

As per a circular issued by the general administration department, government departments seeking clarification on the model code of conduct and other election related issues were directed to abstain from approaching the state chief electoral officer on their own.

The circular said that as per procedure, heads of government department are required to route such requests through the concerned administrative departments at the civil secretariat.

"Therefore, any clarification from the election department is also to be obtained through the concerned administrative departments and not directly," the circular said.

"While seeking such clarifications, the GAD (general administration department) should be invariably kept posted," it added.
