A 32-year-old gangster wanted in a triple murder in west Delhi's Mainwali and carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh has been arrested, the Delhi Police said on Thursday.

Police said the arrested, Naveen Khatri, is a close associate of Sonu Daryapur, the main conspirator in the triple murder in Mainwali on April 30 in which Monu Dariyapur, his PSO and Assistant Sub-Inspector Vijay Kumar, and his friend Arun Shastri were killed and two persons were injured in a shootout.

Khatri, a sharp shooter, was arrested on a tip off by Special Cell on Wednesday evening when he came to meet his associates near Rithala Metro Station.

He was carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh on his head, which was declared by Delhi Police Commissioner.

"On interrogation, Khatri confessed to have been involved in many criminal activities and gang wars in west Delhi, including the triple murder in Maniwali. He said that he is an active member of the Samunder Khatri Gang," Deputy Commissioner of Police Sanjeev Kumar Yadav said.

Born in Narela Village in west Delhi, Khatri fell in bad company during his school days and later started doing crimes in 2004. He joined the Samundar Khatri gang, Yadav said.

He along with Samundar Khatri on January 17, 2015, gunned down Jitender Khatri, a Delhi Police constable in Narela area. On July 2, 2016 he along with Sonu Dariyapur fired at the office of a cable operator in Multani Mohalla in Rani Bagh area, Yadav said.

On April 30, 2017, he along with Sonu Dariyapur and other gang members indiscriminately fired on Arun Shastri, Yogesh, Monu Dariyapur and his two Private Security Guards (PSO) - ASI Vijay Kumar and Constable Kuldeep, while they were having snacks in a car at Shokeen Chowk in Peeragarhi. Thirty-five empty cartridges were recovered from the spot," Yadav added.

Monu was previously a gang member of Sonu Dariyapur. They turned foes after Monu's cousin sister married Sonu Dariyapur. Sonu decided to eliminate him in 2006, Yadav said.

They had attempted to kill Monu Dariyapur in 2006 too, police said.
