Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) will set up a fully computerized four-colour offset press to print copies of the holy scripture Guru Granth Sahib at Gurdwara Rakab Ganj Sahib Complex.
"The new printing press will have the capacity to print 15,000 pages per day which will meet the growing demand of the holy book worldwide, mainly among overseas Sikh devotees," said President of DSGMC Manjit Singh G.K. said in a statement.
He said the new machine will replace the 20-year-old two-colour printing press which has so far published arund 1 lakh copies of the holy scripture.
"The DSGMC will set up the new machine at a cost of around Rs 8 crore in an attempt to keep pace with the latest printing technology. It will be made available to Sikh devotees on subsidized rates. Sikh literature, calendar and diaries will also be published in the new printing press," he said.
The new printing press will be set up at newly constructed Guru Granth Sahib Bhawan in Gurdwara Rakab Ganj complex.
The work for installation of the new machine is being undertaken by Baba Kashmir Singh Bhuri Wale, who is also assigned with the 'kar sewa' of the new building named Granth Sahib Bhawan of printing press.
Shiromani Gurdwara Parbhandak Committtee Amritsar (SGPC) and DSGMC Delhi have exclusive and legal rights for the publication of the authentic version of holy scripture Guru Granth Sahib along with other Gurmat literature (philosophy of the Gurus) worldwide.
The SGPC and DSGMC are the world's largest publisher of authentic Sikh religious books and literature.
"The Guru Granth Sahib is the living Guru for Sikhs. It is seen by the Sikhs as the Guru incarnate. The sacred Guru Granth Sahib is regarded as the body of the Guru and is kept on a raised platform under a canopy, covered in clean clothes. Devotees have to be barefoot with their heads covered before bowing before the holy Guru Granth Sahib," said Manjit Singh G.K.
