Air Marshal Raghunath Nambiar on Monday took over as the Senior Air Staff Officer (SASO) at the Indian Air Force's Eastern Air Command.
Nambiar earlier held the same post at the Southern Air and Training Commands.
A fighter combat leader and a qualified flying instructor, Nambiar undertook the decisive precision attack on Tiger Hill during the Kargil conflict in 1999 and was also the Project Test Pilot for the Light Combat Aircraft 'Tejas'.
Commissioned in the IAF in 1981 as a Fighter Pilot, he is also an Experimental Test Pilot and has the distinction of having the highest flying hours on Mirage 2000 aircraft in the force.
Headquartered in Shillong, the Eastern Air Command's area of responsibility covers 11 eastern and northeastern states.
