The ebola virus has again been detected in a Scottish nurse who first contracted it in December 2014, a media report said on Friday.

Greater Glasgow health board has confirmed that the virus is present in Pauline Cafferkey but said it was left over from the original infection. It is not thought to be contagious, BBC reported.

The 39-year-old who contracted the virus while helping to fight Ebola in Sierra Leone, has been flown back to an isolation unit at the Royal Free Hospital in London.

Cafferkey, who is from Cambuslang, South Lanarkshire, spent almost a month in an isolation unit at the Royal Free Hospital at the beginning of the year after contracting the virus in December 2014.

There is not yet any information about her condition, but government sources have described her

transfer to the specialist unit as a "highly precautionary process".

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), ebola is passed on through bodily fluids. It is not transmitted through casual contact.

The virus has killed over 11,000 people in West Africa during this outbreak.

Last week there were no new cases for the first time since March 2014.
