At least nine people were killed and over 100 others injured on Tuesday during a train collision in the southern German state of Bavaria, police said.

However, what caused the collision remains as yet unclear as the investigations are in the early stages, Xinhua news agency cited police as saying.

A spokesperson for German railway company Deutsche Bahn said that two trains collided on a single-track section near Bad Aibling.

Among the dead was the driver of one of the trains, according to Bavarian Bayerischer Rundfunk broadcaster.

The driver of the other train is missing, though police pointed out that he could hardly survive a collision of this kind.
