Ensure victory of Left candidates, Congress tells Bengal leaders

The Congress, which has forged a tie-up with the Left Front for the West Bengal assembly polls, on Sunday directed party leaders and activists to work for ensuring the victory of Leftist candidates in the constituencies where the party is not in fray.

"With the aim to dismantle the despotic Trinamool Congress regime and to establish democracy in Bengal, the Congress, Left Front and a few other parties have forged an apolitical tie-up.

"In this context, the state Congress directs its leaders and activists to ensure the victory of Front candidates in the constituencies where the Congress has not put up candidates," state Congress president Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury said in a statement.

"The state Congress believes, through this process only, the Trinamool can be defeated and a secular-democratic government be formed," he added.
