In a bid to drive strong Cloud momentum in India, Google Cloud on Tuesday announced the appointment of Amitabh Jacob as Head of Partnerships and Alliances for the country.

Bengaluru-based Jacob, who earlier worked in a similar role at Amazon Internet Services Private Limited (AISPL) -- known as Amazon Web Services (AWS) -- will help drive Google Cloud's route-to-market strategy across the India region through partnerships with system integrators, resellers, technology partners, managed services providers and distribution partners, the company said in a statement.

"India is a key growth market for Google Cloud, and Amitabh is joining us at an exciting time. His experience leading channel organisations will be a tremendous asset for our business, our partners and our customers," said Ash Willis, Head of Cloud Partnerships and Alliances for Google Cloud in Asia Pacific and Japan.

Jacob will be tasked with building adequate channel capacity and competency, driving success through Google Cloud's partnership model and deepening the reach of Google Cloud products and solutions in the Indian market.

"With only 10 per cent of global workloads estimated to be in the cloud, adoption is still very nascent and companies are really only just getting started.

"I am thrilled to be part of Google Cloud at this crucial point in its growth story," said Jacob who has also worked with IBM, Sun Microsystems and Microsoft.

Since launching the Google Cloud Region in Mumbai in 2017, the company said it continues to differentiate itself in the Indian market with its security, network architecture, collaboration, Artificial Intelligence and open source software.
