The Pakistan government will launch a probe into the exclusion of late Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto's name from its advertisements for International Womens Day highlighting the contribution of Pakistani women in diverse fields, the media reported on Saturday.

The decision was taken at the Senate on Friday after the issue was raised by Pakistan Peoples Party's parliamentary leader Sherry Rehman during its session, reports Dawn news.

Rehman said that the name, photograph and mention of the twice-elected Prime Minister was missing from the government's official advertisement.

She said Bhutto was an identity of Pakistan and her achievements brought her worldwide fame, adding that roads were being named after Bhutto in different parts of the world while international universities were creating chairs in her name.

Rehman has also sought an apology.

Later, the House passed a resolution commending the role of Pakistani women in nation-building.

Bhutto served as Prime Minister from 1988 to 1990 and again from 1993 to 1996.

She was the first woman to head the government in Pakistan. Bhutto was assassinated during an election rally on December 27, 2007 in Rawalpindi.
