First snowfall this season comes to New York

New York, Dec 9 The first snowfall of the season arrived in New York on Saturday morning, and is expected to continue until early Sunday morning.

According to a winter weather advisory issued by the National Weather Service, total accumulations of four to six inches of snow are expected in New York city, Westchester county, and portions of northeast New Jersey and southwestern Connecticut, with locally higher amounts possible, Xinhua news agency reported.

Residents in the area are advised to prepare for slippery road conditions and reduced visibilities at times.

To ensure public safety, New York City Department of Sanitation has sent out 700 spreaders citywide salting highways and streets and pre-positioned 1,250 plows across five boroughs.

New Yorkers seemed to be enjoying the first snowy day this winter season as many posted pictures on Twitter.

Rockefeller Center and Central Park were two of the most tweeted places on Saturday. The giant Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center looked more magical in the snow and the snow-covered Central Park was tranquil and timeless.

The New York Public Library posted a photo of Patience and Fortitude, a pair of marble lions that stand before the majestic Beaux-Arts building at Fifth Avenue and 42nd Street in Manhattan, saying "Patience and Fortitude are little chilly today."

Others have been tweeting and retweeting a post featuring a photo of two giant feet built by snow and a comment saying "woke up to two feet of snow".
