The Uttarakhand government has fixed the number of corporators for the eight municipal corporations in the state, an official said on Tuesday.
Elections to these urban bodies will be held in April 2018.
A notification for fixing the number of corporators has already been issued.
The maximum number of corporators (100) are in the state capital of Dehradun. At present the number is 60. In addition, the Dehradun Municipal Corporation also has a strength of 14 nominated members.
Secretary (Urban Development) Nitesh Kumar Jha informed that for a population of one-to-two lakh, the number of corporators now fixed is 40; in a municipal corporation of two-to-four lakh, the number of corporators fixed is 60; for a population of four-to-five lakh (70); five-to-six lakh will have the number of corporations at 80 and six-to-seven lakh will have a strength of 90.
