The foundation stone of the proposed Vizhinjam port will be laid on December 5, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said here on Wednesday.
The port, which will come up near the famed tourist destination Kovalam here, will be completed in three phases at a cost of around Rs.7,525 crore.
The details of the function and the chief guests would be known shortly, the chief minister told reporters after the weekly cabinet meeting. "The date for laying of foundation stone has been fixed for December 5."
Leading port operator in the country Adani Ports had won the contract for building the port.
Once completed, the port would enable ships with a capacity of even 18,000 TEU (20-feet equivalent units) to dock.
