The Punjab government will distribute over 1.52 lakh free bicycles to girls studying in Classes 11 and 12, a minister said Saturday.
The distribution of cycles will begin at a function at Jagraon town Oct 25, Revenue Minister Bikram Singh Majithia said.
He said 152,330 girls in government schools will be given the bicycles under the Mai Bhago Vidya scheme.
Majithia said the state government had already released Rs.41.90 crore for procuring the bicycles.
The state government last year distributed over 1.10 lakh bicycles to girl students.
