Even as onion prices go through the roof, Goans could soon avail of cheaper onions thanks to an initiative by the state horticulture corporation.
Speaking to reporters in Panaji on Friday, Goa State Horticulture Corporation chairman Kiran Kandolkar said the corporation's mobile carts would sell onions at Rs.40 a kg at eight places across Goa.
"Onions are presently available at Rs.53 per kg. We plan to sell it at Rs.40, so that householders in Goa benefit by it," Kandolkar said, even as onion prices touched Rs.80 in some city markets.
The corporation also sells vegetables at less than market rates through its various kiosks and mobile carts.
