The Goa Police have launched a high-level probe into the death of a 39-year-old woman, whose body was lying naked in her apartment, with her limbs tied to the bed.

Director General of Police Muktesh Chander, who visited the scene of crime in Tony Sangolda village, about 10 Km from the state capital, told reporters on Friday that "all efforts are being made to probe the case".

The victim has been identified by police as Monika Ghurde, a perfumer by profession.

As there are visible marks on her neck, police suspect the victim was strangled.

"We will be able to say for sure only after the post-mortem examination... The house also appears to have been burgled, but we don't know what all could have been robbed, because the deceased used to live there alone," Police Inspector Rajesh Kumar told reporters.

DIG V. Gupta said that police teams have already been dispatched to different states to dig out clues to the crime.

"She was estranged from her husband and living alone in Goa. She was originally from Nagpur, while her husband hails from Chennai," he said.

Police said that they were informed about the incident last night, and they have already questioned the watchman posted at the apartment complex as well as the domestic help and the complex's manager in this connection.
