The Professional Golfers' Association (PGA) has announced that Indian Anirban Lahiri will play in the prestigious golf Tour 2015-16 in the US.
The PGA declared on Sunday that Lahiri, current Asian Tour leader, qualified through the Web.com Tour Finals -- the qualifying series for the Tour.
The 28-year-old's performance -- tied sixth at the Hotel Fitness Championship and tied 16th at the Small Business Connection Championship -- gave him $49,750 and the 16th place and -- even though he played only the first two tournaments in order to debut at the Presidents Cup -- his spot in the top 25 money-earners from the Finals.
The PGA also gave away card to top 25 golfers of the Web.com Tour. And Lahiri, who took a career-high tied-fifth place finish in a Major at the PGA Championship, has been placed 32nd in the Web.com Tour eligibility ranking.
Lahiri, who now becomes only the third Indian golfer after Arjun Atwal and Jeev Milkha Singh to earn a PGA Tour card, is currently preparing for the Presidents Cup to be held this week in Incheon, South Korea. He is part of the International Team that will face the US.
The seven-time winner on the Asian Tour will also become the first from his country to compete for the International Team, captained by Zimbabwean great Nick Price.
The PGA tour kicks off with the Frys.com Open starting in California from October 15 to 18). It seems the Bengalurean won't be able to take part in the opener but will look to debut at the CIMB Classic in Kuala Lumpur, the venue where he won the Malaysian Open in February earlier this year.
Lahiri is currently 10th in the European Tour Order of Merit list and looks certain to play in the Race to Dubai's Final Series, including the DP World Championship.
