Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Monday visited the BRD Medical College here and met grieving families of the over 60 children who have died in the past week due to lack of oxygen and other medical reasons.
Extending his condolences, Yadav said there should be no politics over the tragedy and demanded that the Yogi Adityanath government act against those because of whom so many lives were lost.
"Whoever is responsible for the tragedy must be brought to book," he said. The former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh also visited the houses of some of the affected families and assured them of help from his party.
The party has demanded a compensation of Rs 20 lakh for each death.
The 44-year-old Yadav questioned the delay in payments to the oxygen vendor because of which the state-run hospital ran out of oxygen.
