Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik on Thursday hoisted the national flag at the Vidhan Sabha building here, marking the 68th Republic Day of the country.
In his address, Naik exhorted the people to re-dedicate themselves to do good and to ensure that they vote in the upcoming Uttar Pradesh state assembly elections from February 11.
The Governor also pointed out that 40 per cent people had not voted in the last state assembly elections and said that people should make their contribution to the democracy.
A grand parade was later taken out in the Uttar Pradesh capital in which school children, armed forces and contingents of the police took part.
Tableaux were also part of the parade. Helicopters flew overhead and showered rose petals on the parade.
Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav also participated in the event.
