Gurgaon MP quits Congress party

Congress leader and Gurgaon MP Rao Inderjit Singh Monday announced his resignation from the party.

The MP made the announcement at a rally in Rewari district of Haryana organised on the occasion of the day on which the martyrdom of Rao Tula Ram, one of the key leaders from the state of the First War of Indian Independence of 1857, is observed.

President of the District Congress Committee (DCC) of Gurgaon (Urban) G.L. Sharma, as also party presidents of the districts of Rewari and Mahendragarh, Banwari Lal and Rao Ram Singh, respectively, also quit the party.

Leaders of the Congress from other sub-divisions of the state have also resigned, and at least 12 resignations have occurred so far.

Rao Inderjit Singh has been accusing Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda of bias in allotment of development works in the state, saying that the southern districts were being deliberately neglected.

A new party Haryana Insaf Manch was launched March 3 this year, and many former Congressmen are reportedly swelling the ranks of the newly-formed party.
