Gurgaon pubs, bars to get CCTV cover

CCTV cameras will be mandatory at all Gurgaon pubs and bars to ensure that those under 25 years are not served liquor, a senior official said Tuesday.

Excise authorities have also decided to recommend the cancellation of the license to the Buzz-inn bar where over 100 school students were caught consuming liquor Sunday.

The bar was raided by police and the excise department. The pub owner and manager were arrested -- they got bail -- while the students were let off after being warned not to violate liquor laws again.

All the students reportedly belonged to a Gurgaon school, and the host was the son of a senior bureaucrat.

The decision to make CCTV cameras compulsory was taken at a meeting held under the chairmanship of Gurgaon Police Commissioner Alok Mittal.

It was attended by Deputy Commissioner Shekhar Vidyarthi and other senior officials.

In addition, pubs and liquor vends in Gurgaon would be required to display a sign that liquor won't be sold to those under 25 years -- as is done in the case of tobacco products.

The meeting ruled that no pub or bar will remain open after midnight.
