Haryana's Information Technology (IT) exports touched Rs 42,160 crore in 2015-16, with the state's millennium city Gurugram (formerly Gurgaon) leading in the sector.
"The IT exports from Haryana have touched Rs 42,160 crore during 2015-16 and Gurugram is a major contributor. Despite global economic slowdown, these exports reflect an increase of 6 to 6.5 per cent over the previous year," a government spokesperson said here on Thursday.
The assessment was made on the basis of data collected by National Association of Software and Services Companies and Export Promotion Council.
"At present, more than 500 IT and IT-enabled Services (ITeS) are functional in Gurugram. About 50 new small and big IT companies have come up in the state in the last two years. In e-commerce, Snapdeal has opened its office in Gurugram that provides direct employment to more than 6,000 persons and indirect benefits to thousands others," the spokesperson said.
The spokesperson said increased investment in the IT and ITeS sector was due to the new investment policy of the Haryana government.
Well known IT companies operational in Gurugram include Hughes Software, Tata Consultancy Services, HCL, G-Capital, Silicon Graphics, Alcatel, American Express, Convergys, Motorola, Ericsson, Polaris, Dell, Samsung, Aricent, Microsoft, IBM, Siemens, Fidelity, Genpact, Oracle, WNS and Google.
