The Delhi High Court on Friday issued notice to the Delhi University, its Hindu and Hansraj colleges and Kerala government on a plea challenging the admission process for calculating marks from other state boards.
Justice R.S. Endlaw asked all three to file their responses by July 6 on the plea filed by DU aspirant Thabassum Ahammad N.K., who hailed from Kerala, complaining that each college here has different criteria for calculating cut-off marks of students from other state boards during the admission process and seeking a uniform system of admission.
Ahammed's plea said he scored 100 percent marks in best of four subjects but was denied admission as per Delhi University's provisions of deducting 10 percent from his total marks as Kerala State Education Board has a different evaluation pattern from that of the Central Board of Secondary Education.
Ahammad got 100 percent marks in Physics, Chemistry and Maths (PCM) subjects, but at Hindu College, was told that his PCM percentage will be 93.33 percent after evaluation and Hansraj College informed him that his PCM percentage will be 92.23 percent as per their calculation, while St. Stephen's calculated his marks as 99.6 percent.
"There is no uniform system of admission in Delhi University and there is a lot of confusion and misunderstanding with regard to calculation of cut-off marks, especially regarding students from other state boards," said the plea.
