With impact of cyclone Roanu over, the heat wave returned to Odisha with nine places recording temperature above 40 degrees Celsius on Sunday.
Western Odisha town Titlagarh recorded highest temperature of 45.5 degrees Celsius while Bolangir boiled at 45 degrees Celsius. Bhabanipatna registered 44.5 degrees while Malkangiri recorded 44.4 degrees Celsius, said a bulletin of Bhubaneswar met centre.
The capital city recorded 36 degrees Celsius, it said, adding the heat wave would continue till next few days following delay in arrival of monsoon to the state but some places may experience rain and thundersquall in next 24 hours, said the met department.
"Strong and gusty surface wind speed reaching 45-55 kmph, gusting 65 kmph likely to prevail along and off Odisha coast. Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea," said the met department.
Meanwhile, the state government has confirmed death of 19 people due to sunstroke.
