Heavy rains lashed the city on Monday causing water-logging and traffic snarls in major arterial roads.

The steady drizzle intensified in the evening as many of the areas in the south and central Kolkata went under ankle-deep to waist-high water.

Trees were also uprooted in several areas as commuters, including people returning from offices had a tough time.

The situation is unlikely to improve as the met department has predicted heavy to moderate rains in several districts of south West Bengal as well as the city in the next two days.
