Actor and Mathura MP Hema Malini on Sunday said the traditional Braj folk music and songs needed to be promoted, and local cultural streams enriched.
Hema Malini was speaking after releasing a musical production in Braj language by Sunita and group, titled "Braj Mandakini".
Hema said there should be no mixing of film music with traditional folk songs. "Even the instruments used should be local, traditional and folk."
During the months of sawan and bhadon, there is a huge influx of pilgrims in Braj area, and the demand for local musical productions in Braj language spirals, culture critic Mahesh Dhakar said.
Braj area stretches from Mathura, Jalesar, Agra, Hathras and Aligarh right up to Etah, Mainpuri and Farrukhabad districts in Uttar Pradesh, and considered to be the land of Hindu god Krishna.
