Kerala's new Pinarayi Vijayan government on Monday night effected a high-level shake-up in the police force at the highest level.
T.P.Sen Kumar, the Director General of Police, Law and Order was shunted out and replaced by Loknath Behra, who was presently in charge of jails.
Another important change was Jacob Thomas, who took cudgels up with the previous Oommen Chandy government through his Facebook post, has been given the plum post of the vigilance chief. He replaced Shankar Reddy, who holds the rank of the additional director general of police and was seen as an official in the good books of the outgoing government.
Vijayan was sworn in as the 22nd chief minister on May 19 and a reshuffle of the top police brass was on the cards. Vijayan, who holds the home and vigilance portfolios, made the changes, hours after he returned from Delhi on Monday night.
