Hollande hopeful but cautious about future relations with Iran

French President Francois Hollande exercised caution on Tuesday when discussing his expectations of future relations with Iran after having reached an agreement on Tehran's nuclear programme.

The nuclear deal could open the doors to build a new relationship with Iran, Hollande said during his address at the annual conference of French ambassadors, reports Efe.

This relationship, Hollande said, could play a crucial role in resolving the crises that are shaking the region, though the head of state pointed out that such optimism should not go unchecked.

"Iran must be ready to become a constructive actor, as its position, its history, and its culture requires of it," the president told his team of diplomats.

Hollande also stressed that the deal brokered between the P5+1 -- the US, Britain, China, Russia, France plus Germany -- and Iran was a breakthrough in terms of the power of international policies, to which Iranian nuclear facilities will be subject, adding that the lifting of sanctions against the state will be conditional on its compliance with these standards.
