Seven Hong Kong police officers have been arrested over alleged assault on a pro-democracy protester in October.

The Hong Kong Police Force said in a statement Wednesday that the personnel were arrested for assault following further investigation, Channel News Asia reported.

Footage of the alleged assault was aired by a local broadcaster TVB Oct 15. In the footage, a group of men, purportedly plainclothes officers, were seen hauling a handcuffed protester to a corner in Admiralty district and raining kicks and punches on him.

The protester was later identified as Civic Party member Ken Tsang.

The policemen allegedly involved in the assault were removed from their current working positions while the authorities investigated the incident.
