I know realities at Real Madrid: Zidane

Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has admitted that his job is on the line unless his side is able to overturn the 2-0 defeat they suffered in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final against unfancied German outfit VfL Wolfsburg on Wednesday night.

Although that defeat came just five days after their morale boosting win over arch-rivals FC Barcelona in the Camp Nou Stadium, such is the reality of life at Madrid that failure to overturn that deficit in the Bernabeu on Tuesday night could see Zidane sacked at the end of the season, less than six months after he was promoted from the B-team to replace Rafael Benitez, reports Xinhua.

"We know what the situation is in this club," Zidane said on Friday.

"Our season is at stake on Tuesday and we all know that... it is difficult moment," he said, before adding "I like it when things are difficult."

Zidane -- who led France to World Cup victory in 1998 -- said that rather than focus on the bad points of that defeat, it was more useful to keep a positive mindset.

"It is better to think about what we have done lately and that has been good. I am not going to get carried away because we beat Barcelona and neither is what happened on Wednesday going to affect me," he commented.

Nevertheless, Zidane admitted "we were lacking something" in Wolfsburg.

"We were not lacking intensity as it was the second most distance we have covered in a game - even more than in Barcelona. We conceded two goals, but it was not a lack of intensity," he insisted.
