President Pranab Mukherjee Friday called for bettering the quality of teachers and enhancing the learning capacity of students in India.
The president also batted for follow-ups on agreements inked between Indian educational institutes and foreign counterparts to facilitate educational exchanges.
"Up-gradation of physical infrastructure apart, we need to improve the quality of teachers and the learning capacity of students.
"I was a teacher before I entered public life. I know how gratifying it is, as a teacher, to give students the joy of learning, to make them appreciate, reflect and differentiate the strands of thinking," Mukherjee said at the annual convocation of the Calcutta University here.
He also urged the varsity to further the Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojana, a programme for MPs to adopt villages and transform them into model villages.
