India's Abhishek Verma wins silver in compound archery

India's Abhishek Verma won his second medal of the day, the silver in the men's compound archery individual, after losing the final of the 17th Asian Games at the Gyeyang Asiad Archery Field here Saturday.

Verma, who earlier in the day won gold in the team compound event, lost 141-145 to Iran's Esmaeil Ebadi to finish second.

Verma, who got the better of Muhammad Zaki Bin Mahazan 143-135 in the semi-final, got off to a very good start in the final with a first end score of 29-28.

But the 25-year-old Indian incurred a two point deficit in the second end with a score of 27-29.

In the third end, Abhishek scored a series of nine, eight and nine to trail by four points, which was cut to three in the following end.

Then, Ebadi scored three 10's which helped the Iranian seal the match against Verma, who shot 29. Ebadi scored 10 10's to the Indian's eight.

This was India's fourth medal from the archery field in Incheon with the men's team of Abhishek, Rajat Chauhan and Sandeep Kumar winning gold in the compound event while the women's trio of Trisha Deb, Purvasha Sudhir Shende and Surekha Jyothi winning bronze in compound and later on Trisha cliched another bronze in the individual compound competition.

India now have 23 medals (two gold, four silver, 17 bronze).
