Taking note of surprise speedbreakers that prove dangerous for drivers on city roads, the Delhi High Court on Wednesday asked the government authorities to install proper signages ahead of speed breakers and U-turns.
A division bench of Justice B.D. Ahmed and Jayant Nath said that drivers should be warned of the presence of speed breakers and u-turns through the installation of suitable advance warning signs.
The court was hearing two petitions filed in public interest against the unauthorised construction of speed breakers on city roads without complying with the guidelines of Indian Road Congress or the Unified Traffic and Transportation Infrastructure (Planning & Engineering) Centre.
The bench also asked authorities to ensure that all speed breakers must conform to the guidelines IRC and UTTIPEC. It also asked Delhi traffic police to geotag both authorised and unauthorised speed breakers and their location marked by GPS.
