A day after taking control over Iraq's second largest city of Mosul, militants seized Tikrit, the hometown of former leader Saddam Hussein, late Wednesday, a media report said.

Militants associated to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) seized the capital of Salaheddine province, 150km north of Iraq's capital Baghdad, BBC reported Wednesday

On Tuesday, Mosul, the capital of Nineveh province in northern Iraq, came under control of militant groups, including ISIL, after several bloody clashes that erupted with Iraqi security forces last week.
