The Israeli military opened fire Wednesday at Lebanese Hezbollah militants near the interim Israeli-Syrian border in the northern Golan Heights.

An Israeli artillery unit fired towards the suspects, hitting two of them, as they tried to plant an explosive device near the security fence along the Israeli-Syrian border, Xinhua reported. An army spokeswoman also added that Hezbollah was behind the planned attack.

The incident occurred after a raid last Monday, in which Israeli warplanes hit a convoy on the Lebanon-Syria border. The convoy was carrying advanced missiles and missile launchers for Hezbollah.

But Israel has denied carrying out the strike, which reportedly killed four Hezbollah operatives, including a senior commander.

Israeli forces have been on high alert on the Golan Heights since Hezbollah has vowed to avenge the Israeli air strike. Hezbollah also added that it would add a proper time, place and date to attack.
