Eastern Sporting Union hammered Aizawl FC 3-0 to take pole position of the inaugural edition of the Indian Women's League (IWL) football tournament here on Monday.
Goals from Kamala Devi (24th minute), Mandakini Devi (70th) and Kashmina (77th) led Eastern Sporting Union to an easy win over their opponents who gave little resistance at the Ambedkar Stadium.
Eastern Sporting Union are on top courtesy of a superior goal difference having nine points from four matches with Rising Students Club.
Kamala Devi opened the goal scoring charts for ESU as her 24th minute shot following a one touch play with Mandakini Devi ended in the back of the net.
ESU could have doubled their lead in the dying embers of the first half but Kamala Devi failed to put a decisive touch of Bembem Devi's cross. They led 1-0 at half-time.
ESU continued to stamp their dominance in the second half.
In the 70th minute, Mandakini Devi took advantage of a poor clearance and scored to double ESU's lead. Kamala Devi's shot a minute later could have tripled ESU's advantage if it had found the net and not the side-netting.
The Aizawl FC defence seemed to scatter away every time the ball fell to an ESU Player. Kashmina added the third in the 77th minute.
In another match, Alakhpura FC were held to a 1-1 draw by Jeppiaar IT F. Ritu Rani's 34th minute strike for Alakhpura was cancelled by Sandhiya's 44th minute goal.
