The union government's Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) will be a "game-changer" in the country, union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said while launching the mega financial inclusion scheme here Thursday.
Prasad, who is also the minister for communications, information and technology, urged employees in the departments of telecom, posts and law to help at least one person open a bank account under the PMJDY and make it a success.
Tamil Nadu Governor K. Rosaiah said the synergy between the state administration and banking community will converge while serving those not yet reached.
State Finance Minister O. Panneerselvam said Tamil Nadu has been disbursing the proceeds of social benefits like old age pension through bank accounts.
Passbooks and debit cards were distributed among the account holders.
