Singer Jason Derulo's mansion here was broken into by thieves who stole around $300,000 in cash and jewellery.

Derulo, 28, was not in town when the theft took place. It was only discovered when a maid visited his home, reports tmz.com.

The staff member realised someone had entered and taken some things after finding a smashed window and broken door.

Police was called to the property and took a burglary report, but officers are waiting for the "Talk dirty" hitmaker to return home and officially identify the missing items.

Serulo purchased a $3 million mock castle in a gated Tarzana community in 2014 after his split from Jordin Sparks. However, it is not known if this is his current residence, the tmz.com report said.

The star is the latest in a string of Los Angeles-based stars to have had their homes burgled in recent months including Kendall Jenner, Drake, David Spade, Demi Lovato, Scott Disick, Nicki Minaj, Emmy Rossum and Alanis Morissette.
