The central government on Tuesday gave its nod to the inclusion of three new districts - Jind and Karnal in Haryana, and Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh, in the National Capital Region (NCR).
The decision was taken at the National Capital Region Planning Board (NCRPB) meeting here, which was presided over by Minister of Urban Development M. Venkaiah Naidu.
"Jind and Karnal districts of Haryana and Muzaffarnagar district of Uttar Pradesh have been included in the National Capital Region," Naidu said after the meeting.
Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, according to an official statement, after the board's meeting said he sought financial assistance for upgrading infrastructure in rural areas of the NCR as developed rural areas play a vital role in checking migration to urban areas.
He said the Regional Plan-2021 for the NCR has been prepared with an emphasis on development of infrastructure in the urban centres.
Speaking at the board meeting, Khattar said the power utilities would invest about Rs.6,500 crore in the NCR areas of the state over next three financial years to upgrade generation capacity, transmission and distribution network.
