Karnataka Governor Vajubahia Vala on Thursday unfurled the tricolour to mark the Republic Day at the Sam Manekshaw parade ground here.
About 10,000 people, including women and children, flocked to the venue at the city centre to witness an impressive march past.
Before delivering the R-Day address in English, Vala went around the sprawling ground in an open jeep for the guard of honour and received salute from the armed forces at the dais.
A military helicopter showered rose petals over the venue.
Besides contingents from the Army, Navy and Air Force, state and central police forces, National Cadent Corps and Bharat Scouts and Guides participated in the event.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah was present on the occasion.
