The Karnataka Start-up Council has stressed the need to improve ease of doing business for start-ups and ensuring availability of manpower, said an official statement on Sunday.

"The Council has suggested that the state government departments should commission pilot projects by start-ups and facilitate procurement of innovative solutions and products from them," said the statement.

Reviewing the state's multi-sector start-up policy, said to be the country's first-ever, the council evaluated its implementation in the state. It also lauded the facilitation mechanism set up through the Karnataka Start-up Cell, as one-stop shop for providing information on regulatory framework and policy incentives.

"The Council commended the strategy of building institutional capacities to nurture entrepreneurship in tier-2 city educational institutes through the New Age Incubation Network," the statement said.

Funding support at early stage and venture stage through government funds like the Semi conductor Venture Fund (KARSEMVEN) and Biotech Venture Fund were appreciated by the industry captains at the meeting.

Besides Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who is also the Council's chairman, Industries Minister R.V. Deshpande, IT and BT Minister Priyank Kharge, Agriculture Minister Krishna Byre Gowda and Higher Education Minister Basavaraj Rayareddy attended the meeting along with representatives of the industry and the start-up ecosystem in diverse sectors.
