Even though Kerala accounts for 37 per cent of the total area under coconut farming in the country, it is at sixth place in terms of productivity, recently released data shows.
The total area under coconut farming in Kerala is 7.7 lakh hectares, while the total production stands at 7,429 million coconuts -- 34 per cent of its total production, according to the statistics on coconut production published by the Union Ministry of Agriculture.
In terms of productivity, Chhattisgarh leads the chart with record 16,508 coconuts per hectare, followed by Andhra Pradesh with 13,732 per hectare, while Kerala stands at 9,641 coconuts per hectare.
