Delhi Lt. Governor Anil Baijal on Thursday said that awareness generation and public sensitization should be done on war footing to battle vector-borne diseases.
He also directed the Education Department to issue an advisory to all schools, colleges and institutes that students should be informed about the dos and don'ts for prevention of dengue and chikungunya in the morning assemblies or prayers.
Baijal issued these instructions in a meeting called to review the preparedness for dengue and chikungunya, which was attended by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Health Minister Satyendar Jain.
Baijal emphasized the importance of IEC (Information, Education and Communication) as the main tool for combating vector-borne diseases, particularly dengue and chikungunya.
He said that there should be engagement of RWAs with Domestic Breeding Checkers (DBCs) to visit and monitor the households for any potential breeding sites.
The Lt. Governor also directed the municipal corporations that a nodal person be designated for each ward who shall be responsible for vector control and awareness-related measures.
Ward-wise report of activities being carried out at ground level should submitted on daily basis to the controlling authorities, Baijal said.
Delhi Jal Board was instructed to repair or replace all the leaking pipelines of water.
Kejriwal also stressed on involvement of all sections of community to come forward and make it a people's movement to fight dengue and chikungunya effectively.
