Lakhvi's bail plea in abduction case rejected

A court in Pakistan Friday rejected the bail plea of Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi, alleged mastermind of the 2008 Mumbai attack, in an abduction case.

Lakhvi's counsel submitted the application and said the kidnapping case registered against his client was false, Dawn reported.

Arguing against the bail request, public prosecutor Nabeel Tabish said the investigation in the abduction of a man six and a half years ago was still underway.

Until and unless the investigation is complete, the First Information Report (FIR) against Lakhvi could not be dismissed, he said.

Judical Magistrate Naveed Khan rejected Lakhvi's bail plea.

Following registration of the kidnapping case in December 2014, Lakhvi was arrested and taken into custody at Shalimar police station.

Lakhvi has also been facing trial for being the alleged mastermind in the 2008 Mumbai attack.

India has relentlessly sought him as the attack killed over 160 people, including several foreigners, causing international uproar and a diplomatic storm.

Lakhvi, 54, was arrested soon after the attack from the headquarter of the banned Lashkar-e-Taiba militant group in Muzaffarabad.

He was tried in an Anti-Terrorism Court on charges of training terrorists and facilitating the Mumbai terror attack.
