Last rites of soldier killed in Poonch held in Punjab

The mortal remains of slain soldier Paramjit Singh, whose body was mutilated by Pakistani forces, were consigned to flames at his native village in Punjab's Tarn Taran district on Tuesday.

Before the cremation, the family of the armyman insisted to see his body and got the coffin opened. He was cremated with full honours.

The naib subedar was killed near the Line of Control (LoC) in Krishna Ghati area of Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday along with Border Security Force trooper Prem Sagar and their bodies "mutilated".

Paramjit's relatives said that he was scheduled to return home on leave on May 10 for two months and had planned to get the construction of the family house in the village Vainpoin completed.

The family was planning to shift to the new house soon.

Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh announced a grant of Rs 12 lakh for the soldier's next of kin.
