A court here on Tuesday sentenced two suspected Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) operatives to seven years in jail and another to four years' imprisonment for conspiring to carry out blasts in the capital on the instructions of their Pakistan-based handlers.

Additional Sessions Judge Reetesh Singh sentenced Ahtisham Farooq Malik and Shafaqat Ali Tuggu to seven years in jail, while Tawseef Ahmed Peer was jailed for four years.

Malik and Tuggu were held guilty under provisions of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) and the Explosive Substances Act. Peer was convicted under the provisions of UAPA.

Besides the three, the court awarded three months' jail to Saijee Anwar, convicted for forgery and various charges under the Indian Penal Code for providing help in procuring a mobile number on a fake identity proof.

Anwar was granted bail and allowed to appeal against his conviction.

A case was lodged against them by the Delhi Police Special Cell in 2012. According to police, Malik underwent training in Pakistan, and returned to India in 2012 to plan a terror strike in national capital.

Police arrested Malik and Tuggu in February 2012 and recovered explosives from their possession.

Tuggu was an associate of Malik while Peer was named as co-conspirator. Anwar helped in procuring a mobile number on a fake identity proof, police said.
