The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDA) Friday advised life insurers to nominate senior officials as nodal officers for coordination and also simplify procedures for settling claims arising from cyclone Hudhud that hit Andhra Pradesh and Odisha.
The IRDA has also asked life insurers to publicise a dedicated toll-free phone number, a dedicated e-mail ID and contact address of the local office.
In a communication to sent to the heads of all life insurance companies, the IRDA has asked them to initiate immediate action to ensure all reported claims are registered and eligible claims are settled expeditiously.
The IRDA has also asked the life insurers to convey the contact details of the nodal officers to the chief secretary and also to other officials concerned in the states of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha.
The insurance regulator has also asked the life insurers to submit weekly reports on claims reported and settled in the two states.
