The 2013 Long Distance Triathlon World Series events kicked off Saturday in coastal city of Weihai, east China's Shandong province.
The events, sanctioned by the International Triathlon Union (ITU), attracted over 1,000 athletes from 13 countries and regions. In the two-day event, the athletes will take part in the long distance, Olympic distance and fun trial, reports Xinhua.
Triathletes will begin the day with a two-lap, 1.5 km swim. They will then switch to their bikes for a challenging, but scenic 80 km ride, which includes seaside roads.
They will finish the day on 20 km of roads and wooded paths that will be a test of both endurance and technique.
It's the fourth time for Weihai to host the event.
