The Madras High Court on Wednesday declined interim relief to Vedanta Ltd to take up maintenance work at its copper smelter plant in Thoothukudi.

The court posted the case to April 23 for next hearing.

Hearing the petition filed by Vedanta, the court said the state government is undertaking the maintenance work and refused to grant the company the relief it had sought.

The Tamil Nadu government had ordered the closure of the copper smelter plant last year.
