Nand Kishore Balmiki, the main accused in the religious conversion case in Agra, was Wednesday sent to 14 days' judicial custody.
Chief Judicial Magistrate Khaliquzzama sent Balmiki to judicial custody despite police seeking his custody.
Balmiki was wanted in the conversion of 57 Muslim families in Ved Nagar area.
He was the most wanted accused named in the police complaint and carried an award of Rs.12,000 on his head.
He was arrested Tuesday following his surrender.
Sources said his arrest was part of a deal between police and some Bharatiya Janata Party leaders.
