West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has replaced her plush chair with a wooden one at the state secretariat as she considers herself a commoner.

"There are others who can leave the people for anything, but I can forgo anything and everything for the sake of the people," Banerjee said at a Trinamool Congress rally in neighbouring Howrah district Friday.

"I don't work as a chief minister but as an 'aam admi' (commoner). That is why I have replaced the chief minister's chair with a wooden one so that I can work for the people's welfare," Banerjee said.

Continuing the tirade against her former ally Congress, the Trinamool Congress chief said the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government will not see a third term.

"The Congress has gone all out to stifle our livelihood. But the Lok Sabha elections are just six months away, after which the UPA will bid goodbye," she said.

Campaigning for the June 2 Howrah Lok Sabha by-poll, Banerjee listed the welfare work that her government has initiated in the state, which was "ruined by 34 years of misrule" by the Left Front.
